Guess What...You ARE NOT a Thug!

THIS IS NOT GANGSTA!

Whats with the fascination of being attempting to show they are gangsta. Newsflash, you are not. Is it really that hard to just be yourself? Everyone claims to not care what others think of them yet some go out of their way to prove themselves. WTF? I wonder if they ever walk around and ask "What do I think of myself?" Gangstas have short life spans and no 401Ks, heck they don't have insurance...who in their right mind wants that life? Its especially annoying when all of these so-called gangstas are young, hell even old black men. That is so depressing, we are constantly losing our good leaders, strong black men who are capable of doing great things but they get caught up in the bullshit and we lose them either to death or prison.

Just because you watch a couple movies and listen to some Tupac cds, then imitate what you and hear see does not, i repeat, DOES NOT make you gangsta. It makes you an idiot. You can't study for your classes in school but you can study to get a persona of ill repute. Are you kidding me? And when in the world did people , especially families think this kind of behavior is acceptable? There is a difference in a child with behavioral issues and a child with psychological issues is... wait no there isn't an issue, they need their ass beat period.

We need to go back to the 60s and 70s when you didn't mess up or try any foolishness or the neighborhood would unite with their belts and commence the ultimate ass whoopin challenge with you as the guest star. Boy I tell ya back in the days when people were concerned with the well-being of others.

Okay Okay Okay.... lets c here. fo-gangsta is the new hotness. Well new as in for the past 10 - 15 years. Saggin pants, big shirts, and the tuff talk have really lasted, much longer than i thought it would. Being an 80's baby i have been able to watch a wealth of change in our society. Of course thats not nearly as much as my mom or grandmother, but theyre not really on the in-crowd, so i tell my side.

Where im from we call the fo-gangsta 'waterthugs', just add water and you got it, instant thug. i remember when being a thug really meant something. Like you might get punched in the mouth looking at the wrong person or for a few dollars. No waterthuggery is a persona, its has morphed into a fad (like lesbianism, even though we all love that one, or at least me). Its actually kinda funny, because for some reason it has no been accepted as being 'cool' to be phoney. Embracing the very stereotype of a sub-class of society that promotes itself on 'being real', no thats an oxymoron. The idealism of what being gangta is or even what it is about has been lost in time. Black people have actually taken an already basterdized term 'gangta' from white people and actually gave it less class. The early half of the 20th centruy had real gangstas, mob bosses, people that were completely nuts, but smart. They moved in factions and cultivated money and resources from various parts of the country. They had their own code of ethics, a hierarchal structure, and the gangster was not doing the dirty work. Gangter was a term used to describe a 'made man' someone who has stood the test of time and solidified a place in their organization. Then through gangta rap we saw a new breed of gangta, the dudes that glamorized shooting at cops, selling drugs, and getting more chix than any Arab bomber could dream about. Okay, got it, your really tuff and you want everybody to know. The only problem with that is it became so popular so quick that the people that actually did this stuff were no longer the people writing it or rapping it for that matter. Now we are stuck with a hole generation of waterthugs trying to emulate the mob boss mentality without 1 understanding what it is and where it came from, 2 have no concept of starting at the bottom and building themselves up. No one sits these kids down and explains to them that to be an actual gangsta, you have to devote a life to it. Thats right kids, give yourself over to a job thats more than 8 hours a day everyday, has no benefits, and will either land you in 1 of three places, a grave, the penitentiary, or a mansion with a crap load of money. Oh yeah, the chances of getting that mansion and the money, is less than the chances of becoming an olympic gold medalist, or a starter in the nba, as a matter of fact that chance is on the slimist to none side. But it is that goal and that goal alone that has enticed the minds of us and our young, the value of a quick buck. Its just difficult to explain that there is no value in a quick buck.

We have to teach our kids that hard work is important; kids that get everything fast want everything fast. We have to actually raise our children, putting them in front of a cartoon or MTV jams is not the right answer. Let them see you work hard it will set the right example. In my opinion you should not even glamorize that type of foolishness in front of them. Children are easily impressionable and theyll figure it out pretty early, the slang, the clothing, the attitudes all stem from what we teach them and what they see. It important to watch who is influencing your child cause it only takes 1 bad apple to ruin a bag. I really like this quote from your post "There is a difference in a child with behavioral issues and a child with psychological issues is... wait no there isn't an issue, they need their ass beat period." Thats so friggen true.

Oh for the record, lets not go back to the '60s and '70s where the neighborhood raised the children. There are waay to many sick people out there, most of which i would rather not raise, touch, or be near my children. And also factor in that you werent there, it was surely not as glamorous as your parents make it out to be, ever heard of hippies and the creation of meth, yep buddy thats the '60s and '70s. That was also the era where gangs were created. So lets move forward, i get the sentiment, but that wont/cant work anymore. We need to really take on a system, a new concept maybe, RAISE YOUR OWN DAM KIDS!!!, i know strange, seems a little crazy, try it and see what happens. We already know that letting a community filled with misinformed unraised troubled youth is not working.
